Week 1 Class Outline



Days 1+ 2:
ØIn the textbook read pages 962- 967
Ø As students complete the reading hand them an advertisement from either a magazine or a newspaper
Ø Tell them that they are not to destroy these because I will be needing them for other classes
Ø Once they are all seated ask them to examine the advertisements and ask: What do all of these and all advertisements have in common?
Ø Take another look at the ads, how exactly are they doing it. Look at the words and the pictures
Ø  Give the students a couple of minutes to look at them and then go around the room and have the students tell what their ad is and how the company is trying to persuade us. Take note of the audience they are marketing to. Keep in mind what you just read in the textbook.
Ø After all students have shared the magazine ad and the persuasive techniques used to the class, I will pair students up by ability levels to create a product to sell using the elements of persuasion that were noted in the magazine advertisements
Ø Review the list of Persuasive Techniques on page 964
Ø Hand out ‘Ad Campaign’ assignment and go over.
Ø Students will have class time to begin working- they will have one additional period to work on this in class before they present their products and try to sell them to everyone else
Ø Homework: Work on your Ad Campaign- make decisions before you leave class as to whom will complete what

Ø Share Ad campaign projects
