Day 1:
Ø Finish sharing Ad Campaign’s
Ø Once everyone has shared discuss 'Who, besides marketing companies, in this world would use persuasion to gain support? How do these people use persuasion? What do they say/ do?
Ø I will introduce Propaganda and show various WWII posters on the overhead which we will discuss as a class
Ø I will lead the discussion into Orwell’s background in Burma and the different government structures that he supported
Ø I will hand out ‘Portals’ pages 4-6 and have you read popcorn style stopping to discuss the important points and to show streaming videos
Ø Once we have completed this hand out a copy of ‘Portals’ pages 7-9 ‘The Politics of a Political Writer’ and have them complete it for homework.
Day 2:
Ø Check and stamp homework
Ø Discuss the different government types and how they lead into each other
Ø List them on the board and have the students discover how they roll from one to another
Ø Once this is complete discuss the different stereotypes associated with each these governments and then list the major animals found on the farm and discuss the stereotypes associated with them: Pigs, Work horse, Donkey, Raven
Ø Hand out and ‘Term Review’ and give 10 minutes to complete before reviewing
Ø Hand out Chapters1- 3 vocabulary packet
Ø Give time to complete
Ø If time, read chapter 1 to the students
Ø Homework: Finish reading chapters one and two and answer all of the questions for these two chapters. Begin to fill out the character Chart sheet
Day 3:
Ø Re-cap the events of chapters 1 and 2
Ø Discuss the Commandments that were mentioned in chapter 2 and list them on the board
Ø Hand out writing Assignment #1 and go over all requirements
Ø Begin working on Projects
Ø Homework: finish Writing Project #1
